As more people every day use a browser different than Internet Explorer and everyone uses a browser that fullfil his/her requirements,  it is very important for a web designer to know how the website looks in the mayor browsers.

It is impossible to have all the available browsers in different versions installed on your PC and check how your website looks.

Here comes the BrowserShots! A free open-source online service created by Johann C. Rocholl where you can choose from Linux, Windows and MacOS browsers, submit the URL of your website and in a few minutes you will have screenshots of how your website looks in the mayor browsers you selected.
One more good feature is the you can select the version of the browser (not only the latest version).

The service is fast and really helpful. Surely you must have a look!

Disable completely the RSS in Joomla! 1.5.x

2009.05.11

First to say that this works only if you do not need the Front Page Blog Layout in your website ;)

I was searching the Joomla! forum to find out how I can completely disable the RSS. When I say completely I mean that the links:

index.php?format=feed&type=rss
index.php?format=feed&type=atom

will not be shown at all.

I disable the syndicator module and I select to “No” but even in that case if someone type the above urls will get a RSS page to subscribe.

So, if you want to completely disable the RSS your default menu item (that which is shown as first page) should not be a “Front Page Blog Layout”. An easy solution is to make the default menu item a Article Layout to your article you want as the first page of your website.

If you do so, when you visit the above links you will get an 500 error.

If you have any better suggestion on how you can disable the RSS in Joomla! please leave a comment.
